Sustaining a shoulder injury is common after a traumatic accident, such as a car crash.  The shoulder is primarily a ball and socket joint that consists of 3 main bones – the clavicle, the scapula, and the arm bone which is known as the humerus. These three bones are joined together by ligaments, muscles, tendons, and a joint capsule that allow the arm to function. The shoulder joint is said to have the greatest range of motion when compared to any other joint in the body.
The rotator cuff is one of the most important components of the shoulder.  It is comprised of a group of muscles and tendons that hold the bones of the shoulder joint together.  The rotator cuff muscles provide individuals with the ability to lift their arm and reach overhead.
